This small porcelain teapot, made at the Meissen manufactory after 1740, is moulded with the relief pattern known as ‘Gebrochener Stab’ or broken staff and painted in underglaze blue with the delicate ‘Strohblumen’ or strawflower design.

In the third quarter of the eighteenth century, the piece was further embellished in Bohemia with Hausmaler enamelling in the chinoiserie style, adding polychrome figures and ornamental motifs over the original glaze. The combination of factory and independent decoration reflects the widespread taste for exotic and personalised designs among European collectors of the period.
