The maker of this set, Crown Staffordshire Porcelain Co. Ltd, were noted for their yellow glazed ceramics decorated with stylised flowers, which were a popular decorative motif for such wares. Each item features a Patent Office Design Registry number and has been mounted with silver by the silversmithing firm of William Comyns and Sons. The firm frequently collaborated with ceramic manufacturers to produce elegant, silver-mounted tableware. William Comyns established his firm in 1859 when he purchased the business from the silversmith Robert Tagg.
