This impressive Victorian urn was made in 1851 and is heavily engraved in the rococo style with architectural motifs, naturalistic details and animals. An inscription on the urn reads: ‘Presented with other tokens of their regard by the Congregation of St. George’s Church, Belfast, to their Beloved Pastor Rev. Wm. McIlwaine, A.M. and Ex Scholar of Trinity College, Dublin, Their grateful appreciation.’ William McIlwaine was an evangelical and a Classical and English scholar.
